Key Person Approach

Bradley Bar is governed by the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This is a statutory framework offering clear expectations for the care, learning and development of children aged between 0 and 5 years in Ofsted registered settings.

We operate a key person system when looking after your child. This approach means that each member of staff has responsibility for a certain group of children. The benefit of this close group approach is that it enables staff to progress each child’s individual needs and accommodate individual characteristics of effective learning as well as keeping a ‘learning journey’ for every child and working closely with you as parents.

Relationship with Parents

A key value for us at Bradley Bar is initiating and nurturing a long lasting partnership with parents.

‘Parents are children’s first and most enduring educators. When parents and practitioners work together in early years settings, the results have a positive impact on children’s development and learning.’ The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

As part of the EYFS approach, we share all the files and progress of each child with their parents.

We truly believe that working hand in hand with parents and involving you in your child’s education, learning and development is the best approach possible.

Communication

We also encourage communication with parents. We do this through;

  • Questionnaires to seek parental opinion on topics such as children’s activities, key people, nursery organisation and management
  • Annual parent evenings to discuss a child’s performance and progress with their key person
  • Stay and Play sessions, this is where family and friends are invited to our nursery to play with the children and experience the setting for themselves
  • Annual Summer Fayre to raise money for charity with plenty of exciting activities for the whole family to enjoy, such as baking, face painting and much more…

Nurturing Children's Development

Bradley Bar nursery puts significant emphasis on nurturing each child’s character and strengths. We do this by encouraging the children to communicate and express themselves through a variety of media.

  • Daily Circle Times, this is an opportunity for stories, songs, letter of the week, show and tell and lots more…
  • Communication books, this is a book between you and your child’s key person which can be used to share information about the learning taking place in the home environment as well as at nursery and can be important in developing closer working relationships.
  • One to one time with the child’s key person
  • Sharing of nursery toys, messy play bags, song bags as well as story sacks these are sent home on a regular basis encouraging the children to extend the learning experiences at nursery to their home environment
